Stage Etiquette
When you come up on stage to speak, do not speak over the panelist(s) if at all possible. Individuals speaking over panelists when they are invited on stage may be kicked from the stage if they do not 1. either mute or leave the stage after they have said their piece or 2. speak over other speakers and panelists. Disruptive individuals will be confronted if they become a disturbance to the audience or panelists. These rules are in place to prevent others being unfair to other speakers or panelists. Before you come up on stage to speak if the panelist(s) want to have community discussion, please read this over.
There wasnβt that much to be said in the opening ceremonies anyways, other than describing the events in the server and myself thanking everyone for attending!
it might be worth to ask for everyone that wants to share on stage, what is something interesting about your kinself or your people/species? I'm really curious to know!
tbh thanks for saying that because i sometimes feel left out of conversations about, like, spiritual experiences & such relating to draconity, being more toward psychological myself
I'm in the same boat on my identity being both, I attribute it to a spiritual standpoint but I think the fact that I view it as my identity in the first place is entirely psychological
Same here.
Tbf, journeys and experiences are always complex and educational. Plus it gives us more insight into the struggles we are trying to better. Has your complex experiences helped you in anyway regardless of how easy you wish it would of been?
i guess i still do, i was in contact with a dragoness for a while and she kind of left when i became more experienced, no idea if shes still around lol(edited)
These experiences are all so interesting. x3
I myself have been studying Norse Pagan and was wondering about the pathway.
Its awesome that everyone is connecting multiple aspects of their beliefs to do so.
And the dragoness is very curious, I wonder what she was like.

That is awesome! x3 How have you been incorporating it? Sorry if you already answered, im a bit slow. ;w;
huh, I haven't seen much of that in the draconic path specific content but a lot of dragon magick stuff has a lot of heaven and angel stuff linked to it, which is w e i r d(edited)
In our world, we lived in a sand hive with multiple different individuals, lifestyles, and cultures. I know I'm not angelic, we just lived together learning and some others alone or just in a family group. I never knew many saw it as angelic.
yeah, I find it strange. One of my books put dragons in a few boxes and then say that they reside in all of the multiverse so it's weird to me that dragons have to be only these things but they exist in an infinite amount of places. like huh... no diversity???
I come from the underworld and I know a dragon from the Duβat (Ancient Egyptian) but I know tons of fictionkin and dragons who are animals
I donβt understand the whole heavenly dragon things.
the books i read has the author claim to have written these closely with dragons but the dragons i work with have often told me some of the things in there aren't accurate xD
It would be so cool to have a bunch of dragonkins come together to share different types in a magazine or log of sorts. x3 That way there is a large resource by actual draconic.
But different experiences are good and there are so many reasons many others exist outside of what is considered typical by some. Im surprised about the gatekeeping, you are doing awesome and should be accepted.v :<
i am relatively new to these spaces and haven't seen any elitism like you described, is there some sort of resource that holds receipts or something? not that i don't believe you, i would just like to make my own judgement as well

We was just discussing Elitism in the community causing toxic gatekeeping on different individuals. To which others are trying to advocate against. You didn't miss much. :3
I don't think I have receipts readily available unfortunately. Probably cause it would be just too absurd for anyone to target me with that specific kind of bullshit. But I've definitely witnessed it happen to others

most of the dragon elitism i've personally seen usually has dragons claiming to be superior to other species, most of the time being humans but also other animals and the such. it's terrifying tbh.
We arenβt really too comfortable coming up in vc (curse our social anxiety!!) but we have some stuff to say about our experiences.
It took us a long time to accept ourself as draconic since our identity largely comes from being kin with a character who can shapeshift into a dragon-like form (well, itβs more of a drake, but whatever). We havenβt been in the community for long (just a little over a year), but we have seen the gatekeeping and were really worried about being accused of misusing terminology, especially with some of the anti-fictionkin sentiments weβve seen.
We really only started using the draconic label after Othercon this year, since some of the discussions there really helped us be more comfortable as our skeletal self.

I as a new dragonkin to the community a year ago was welcomed into one of those bubbles. And when I left I suffered harassment and my name being slandered. That was back in 2017/2018. Itβs almost 2023 and I still try to pretend I am not dragonkin and am still questioning after years.(edited)

Is there Elitism in newer circles or more in older circles? I've seen both but how can we avoid the newer people carrying on older toxic aspects of our community? And how do we influence change?(edited)
We think one of the best ways to combat it is education and visibility. It's one of the reasons we personally like to share our experiences because we have odd dragon-types and linktypes and we want others to know there's nothing wrong with that
As mentioned above, I think there's a lot of elitism, at least in the western dragon community, targeted toward those who don't fit the classic four-leg, two-wing body plan
Amber
I mean, you can still be proud of what you are without being an elitist..
What always puts me off is that I have pointed out our "superiority" as being nonexistent to someone who claimed we dragons are above others and they answered something along the line of "oh you know what I mean though, you're a dragon."
No, I don't know what you mean.

A real supreme being - in my opinion - doesn't need to point down on others and degrade them. If there is one truth in the world, then that every being has its space and its necessity and no one is better or worse then another
I love when the community shares information more than focusing on superiority. Its nice when they write on scrolls, share experiences from their kins, accepting fictionkins, and in general being equals.
Would it still fall under this if it's the nature of one's draconity that one is elitist about? By which I mean, I've seen some talking about how psychological dragonkin are inherently less valid than the spiritual variety & all
It actually took me a decade to accept myself as dragon because there was such a push when I first got here claiming that everyone wants to be a dragon cause they're cool and accusing everyone of making it up
@Nightmare (They/It/Pup) Experienced that too. Youβre very right

Oh gosh, this is reminding me of communities gatekeeping animals that was common in kintypes. (Ex.Foxes, Dragons (claiming it to be a power high) etc)

i tend to lean toward psychological myself, and, when i first went in to the community, i didn't talk about that much 'cause of fear of being labeled as, like, an RPer or illegitimate for not being as spiritual as many in the community
i've also seen some servers with a lot of members who are super anti-fictionkin, and, like, i'm not fictionkin myself, but it's still disappointing to see
One day Iβll talk about my experiences in detail and how I went from a young dragonkin to a questioning otherkin many years later.
But Iβm shy and still learning who I am.
The anti-fictionkin stuff is why weβve had such a hard time accepting ourself. Itβs taken over a year to really be somewhat comfortable, and even then we still have a ways to go
I'd like to say something, but i'm using a voice changer that has a 30 second delay because i'm a bit shy to use my real voice

dragon elitism always confuses me. No matter whether or not you believe dragons to exist, it's easy to see that there are a wide array of beliefs and interpretations of dragons all over the world. To claim that dragons can only be one thing is to decide that every other interpretation is wrong.
You'd have to fit every single elitist's personal beliefs to be valid and that is literally impossible.
I feel like I've definitely experienced anti fictionkin+dragonkin servers but in the way of... Simply not listening? . Anyone else experienced this as well? It seems to overlap with weirdness towards people who are against having done
Hurtful or 'villainous' things as their kintype (the past life focused wording is based off my experiences)
I really appreciate you all chatting about this because I, 1) am a pretty typical western dragon so I'm not aware of a lot of the struggles others face, and 2) it's extremely clear this is an issue that's impacting the community tangibly
Would Elitism and harm toward others who are different be as tangible as those excluding LGBT individuals or people who are less accepted in communities experiences? And would this qualify as discrimination or no? /gen I dont mean any harm Im just curious
Well to be honest I'm pretty used to being excluded... I've been "different" since I was a child. I don't even mind much. Still it's an awful thing. Idk why people do it.
When I joined my first dragonkin server on discord I was very insecure about being faked claimed and I thought maybe I was overreacting but someone told me they were glad I was considering my horns and claws not actually being made out of gold cause that 1. wouldn't make sense and 2. would be a red flag if I claimed that.
It's frustrating how common this is.
The thing that really gets me is that the term "dragon" encompasses SO MUCH, and for people to say "ah, you don't count as a dragon" really is mind-boggling
Same for us here, we go through quite the differences that we was always excluded or targeted by authorities as a child up. We do feel our experiences of treatment in communities; from here to disabilities to minorities, are connected in how we feel. Depressed and alone.
it would be different if someone asked for outside feedback but most of the time it's just unsolicited "advice" (more like judgement veiled as helpfulness)
As a dragon who isnβt really any sort of existing cultural idea (weβre a skeleton shapeshifter lol), excluding folks that arenβt a βnormalβ or well-known type of dragon is something weβve worried about facing a lot, and is a stupid concept in general
If memory serves, I recall more than one of the old message boards having an entire category for grilling people which everyone was expected to participate in
We wanna dergpile now XD
Might poke some folks with our bones, but they shouldnβt be too sharp

I tried joining a therian forum but got ganged up on and S baited for being a dragonkin (2013) before being banned from the site altogether. I was apparently "invading" despite being a new person in the community and I didn't know what I was doing. They accused me of a lot and assumed the worse out of me, along with calling me crazy.
To this day, forums spike my social anxiety :/
Not really.. it's rather critically, but respectfully questioning the identity of others. Which needs much carefulness and can quickly derail into trying to invalidate them. That's not what it should be about.
back in ye olde days there was a larger amount of people that were there to just harass forum users and fake being kin to stir up shit so (NOT DEFENDING IT) that's the reason why it happened so frequently
I do notice the older forums had restrictions based on and acting elitist. I was glad when new channels and forums popped up and grilling started to drop more. It was so common back then. Surprised I forgot lol(edited)
Weβre on TikTok some, and weβve seen some things that could probably count as grilling there. Therians fakeclaiming each other or saying they donβt really understand what being a therian is, and similar stuff.
hmmmm
as someone who's done a deep dive into our history, gods, i can absolutely tell when alterhumans havent read about our history.
there so many wolves lol it's okay, totally normal! /g

at the same time.. there are now people out there attention grabbing normies by saying outlandish things on ^ specifically tiktok ^ to normal people about being otherkin. :/ which uhhh isn't good for them and isn't good for kin in general. I can only see community start to snap at people when they come accross even well meaning 'kin and start this nasty behavior of trying to find the "real kin"
